CPP20218 – Release 2
Certificate II in Security Operations (Unarmed & Crowd Control Licence)
The Certificate II in Security Operations is the essential course that must be completed to apply for your QLD security licence (unarmed and crowd control).
RAM Training Services offers this course as a 10-day face to face course, with some pre-course work required. Any tasks or activities that you do not get finished between the time you enrol, and completion of the 10 face to face days, must be completed in your own time. You will have up to 6 months to complete all course work.
Included for our security students, is a face to face or live Zoom Q&A Session once a month at Southport (or via Zoom), to assist with any questions students may have when completing home studies, as well as access to a trainer via email and phone.
Once you have successfully completed your course, and obtained your Certificate, you can then apply to the Office of Fair Trading for your QLD Unarmed and Crowd Controller Security Licence. You can also apply for the Monitoring function, as this function no longer requires any specific training. The Office of Fair Trading will charge you just under $550 for a 1 year licence, or just over $965 for a 3 year licence – these fees are payable directly to the Office of Fair Trading, when lodging your licence application.
The application process includes a criminal history check. To be eligible for a licence, you must:
- be 18 years or older
- not pose a risk to public safety
You are not eligible for a licence if you have been convicted of a disqualifying offence in the past 10 years, where a conviction was recorded. Please click here for further information on disqualifying offences.
RAM Training Services offers the Certificate II in Security Operations course as a blend of pre-course work, 10 days face to face in class, and post-course work for any activities that you don’t get completed by the end of the face to face component.
Standard Fee: $1,100
SPRING SALE PRICE: $995. Pay on the day of enrolment.

How long does the course go for?
The face to face component of the course is 10 days. During this time you will complete a combination of both theory, and extensive practical work – restraint techniques, first aid, etc. When you enrol into the course, you will be given some pre-course reading to get you ready to commence the face to face class. Any activities that you don’t get time for in class, are able to be finished from home, post-course – you have up to 6 months in order to complete and submit these. The amount of time it takes is dependent on you – your past experience, your other commitments, and your discipline for home-studies.
Can I apply for a security licence in another state, using this certificate?
Our courses are for QLD security licences only. If you move interstate at some stage in the future, you can contact that state at the time, and enquire about Mutual Recognition of your QLD licence.
How long will my security licence be valid for?
When you apply for your licence, you have the choice of applying for a 1 year or a 3 year licence, at which time you can renew it. If you hold a Crowd Controllers licence, you will need to re-do 2 of the crowd control units, every 3 years.
If I have a criminal history, can I still get a security licence?
You are not eligible for a licence if you have been convicted of a disqualifying offence in the past 10 years, where a conviction was recorded. You must also tell the Office of Fair Trading if you have been found guilty of a disqualifying offence in the past five years, where a conviction was not recorded (this is known as an ‘unrecorded finding of guilt’). They may ask you for further information to assess if you are a suitable person to hold a licence.
To confirm your suitability, they will submit your application for a criminal history check. If you were born in New Zealand or have a New Zealand passport, you need to get a copy of your criminal history or a letter indicating you have no criminal history from New Zealand. For more information, visit the New Zealand Ministry of Justice website.
You don’t have to pay any fees to get a New Zealand criminal history check. Only original documents dated within one month of the date you send them in. Please note it takes 20 working days to process a request for a New Zealand criminal history check.
